ABSTRACT

Having examined the characteristic dilemmas of allyship and the means by which they are mitigated, this final chapter discusses the unique contribution of this analysis toward understanding contemporary anti-racism. In making this case, the chapter also reviews evidence showing how allies receive their dilemmas not only as sources of difficulty, but also as productive sources of self-development. Recognizing the constitutive status of dilemmas to their anti-racist projects, allies seize upon their struggles with these dilemmas as materials to be used in appraising their own progress toward authenticity.
