ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the growing interest in technology’s influence in performance-based settings outside of traditional sport to assist with skill learning and performance preparations will be explored. The use of technology to benefit the overall health and well-being of performers will also be discussed. Specifically, research that has examined individuals using various technologies in settings such as the performing arts (dance and art), the military and aviation services and the medical/healthcare setting will be presented. Some of the risks attributed to this technology use for these groups of performers in their professional lives will also be explored. Reference to popular digital health tools and interventions to promote and deliver healthcare across various sections of modern-day society will also be made (e.g., the use of Fitbits/wearable health-tracking devices).
