ABSTRACT
Chapter 9 defines volumetric video and explores its similarities to optical motion capture. This section covers various capture approaches and representations in detail. A production tracking list for volume capture is provided, as well as best practices for props, hair, makeup, facial hair, and wardrobe are included. A section of this detailed chapter is dedicated to capture workflow with actors for volume capture – an extremely important and relevant part of the process. Capture workflow discussions include calibration, lighting, camera, blocking, testing, and more. Processing workflow is detailed with important information provided for 2D to 3D processing, geometry refinement, audio, encoding, and so much more. Post-production workflow is given additional meticulous attention with common post-production tasks bullet pointed for clear understanding.
