ABSTRACT

Chapter 11 begins with providing industry expert opinions on capturing environments for LED walls, progressing into scanning physical sets for use in the digital world using LiDAR or traditional photogrammetry, with an emphasis on this practice for continuity, especially for sets that might be used in multiple episodes of a multi-season show or sets that should be stored in a show’s library. Photogrammetry is detailed – who does it, how the team is constructed, how to optimize, and when it should be done manually versus in an automated fashion. A “how to” for immersive plate photography (i.e., shooting plates for Unreal environments) is examined and explained, with an overview of color space, capture for set extensions, frame rate options, and camera and lens choices.
