ABSTRACT

Chapter 13: “In-Camera Visual Effects,” known by the acronym “ICVFX.” The success of this approach relies on the careful blending of old and new workflows, including sync, color workflows, working with virtual and traditional production design to create real and virtual set pieces that tie everything together, and utilizing 2D playback where needed. When to utilize 2D versus 3D playback is given a deep dive as it is a very important consideration in the planning stage. It takes into consideration items like time of day and parallax. Specific examples of when to use each technique are provided, with special attention given to timelines for projects lending themselves to the 3D approach. This chapter gives the reader a solid base upon which to determine what is best and when as well as how to accomplish it and what the costs are – both in terms of time and money!
