ABSTRACT

Chapter 18 is dedicated to virtual production software and provides a description and examination of each tool currently available to the virtual production team. Game engine software and the optimal usage for each are described, including Unity, Unreal, Touch Designer, and Notch. Virtual production can consist of a variety of content types, including real-time environments, generative and pre-rendered environments, and the on-set applications of accomplishing each are given special attention. Media servers for filmmaking and the scenarios for each are examined, with a list of current industry standard servers, including Pixera, disguise, and VyV Photon. The reader will take away a firm understanding of the technologies that support this emerging technology.
