ABSTRACT

Cameras for virtual production are covered extensively in Chapter 19, including an exploration of Global Shutter versus Rolling Shutter, best practices for camera testing, how LED screens affect depth of field and the circle of confusion, and how to avoid moiré. Additionally, valuable information regarding lens kits, how sensor size and sensitivity can affect image quality, lens kit dos and don’ts, valuable coverage of resolution options, genlock/timecode considerations, and many tips and tricks to avoid artifacting are provided. Frame remapping for ICVFX is given particular attention, including some field-tested best practices. Megapixel’s HELIOS LED processing’s GhostFrame is introduced, with clear and compelling case studies and imagery to explain how it is best used in virtual production. The reader will learn about the importance of camera and lens calibration and how this data can be used in a post–visual effects pipeline. Basically, virtual production from the DPs point of view and experiences.
