ABSTRACT

The introduction of color management on the LED wall is emphasized in this chapter, and best practices for the common color pipeline using Unreal Engine are provided in detail. An explanation and examination of the three major segments of the color pipeline utilized in shooting on an LED wall is revealed. Each segment’s color management concerns are addressed, and the reader will benefit from the technologists at Epic and their real-world experience working with color in virtual production, along with a definitive diagram of tech flow pertaining to color. High Dynamic Range, Scene Color, Post Processing, and other key terms are defined and examined as they appear in the color pipeline. In-camera visual effects (ICVFX) and other scenarios are detailed, and LED wall-specific criteria for optimal results are provided.
