ABSTRACT

Chapter 24 delves deeply into training ICVFX for virtual production. Virtual production for ICVFX training relies heavily on a strong foundation of traditional computer graphics and filmmaking, with ICVFX-specific engineering and other practical workflows often worked out on set. This is an emerging field, and schools and institutions are attempting to meet the demand through traditional educational approaches – but are there other approaches? Epic Games’ Unreal Fellowship is examined and its community and mentored style approach to training. This program provides an immersive experience, and practitioners who are working with the latest tools on the latest projects will greatly benefit from this type of program. The training is more vocational in nature, with the focal point being a short film which must be completed using Unreal’s toolset. The reader will learn how Epic trains and keeps in touch with its Fellowship alumni.
