ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 defines LED volumes as the combination of an LED wall acting as a backdrop for a physical set and utilizing game-engine-produced projected renders for the display from the point of view of a physically tracked camera in virtual production. The use of which allows for a “Plan it in Pre” versus “Fix it in Post” workflow. With provocative headers such as “Is an LED Volume the Right Tool?” and “The Ten Commandments of LED Volume Production,” the chapter provides in-depth insights as to the advantages and disadvantages of LED volume production. This allows the reader to approach each production with the right questions to ask in setting up this particular “get in in camera” process.
