ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 calls upon experts from various leading companies in the field (Magnopus, The Third Floor, and Lux Machina) to suggest best practices in virtual production staffing and organization. Each role and its traditional film production interfaces are described in detail, with particular attention paid to leadership positions. The chapter provides organizational charts and bullet-pointed definitions of key responsibilities, direct reports, and ideal team composition for roles in leadership as well as team members for the virtual art department, the visualization department, and stage operations. Producing virtual production is given special treatment, with a discussion of the budgeting process and the evolution of virtual production from its roots in previsualization to today’s workflow.
