ABSTRACT

The chapter begins with the Quadruple Aim, a framework developed by the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) to improve the state of healthcare. This framework has been widely adopted by the US Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. As healthcare practitioners are acutely aware, digital transformation requires experience with IT systems, digital platforms, and work transformation methods. Successful work transformation efforts require transforming the culture of Healthcare Organizations through evolutionary change management. This requires implementing PIs of increasing scope and complexity prior to embarking on digital health efforts. Supply chain improvement projects that involve the optimization of non-critical supplies for multiple departments can be classified as low impact; projects that involve optimizing supplies for urgent care, procedure rooms, and clinical departments can be classified as medium impact; and projects that involve optimizing organization-wide supplies, including physician offices, and pharmacy can be classified as high impact.
