ABSTRACT

Healthcare Organizations (HCOs) digital health strategies follow the pattern of e-commerce platforms that utilize multiple types and modalities of platforms to accomplish their mission. However, HCOs predominantly utilize Digital Healthcare Platforms (DHPs) owned and operated by independent parties to accommodate the scope, complexity, and workflow requirements for their digital health vision. This chapter discusses different types of DHPs such as telehealth systems, EHRs, digital therapeutics, RPMs, smart wearables, AI algorithms (CDS and image recognition), SCM, and others. It discusses each DHP type will include examples of systems and a brief description of their functions. Digital Therapeutics platforms enable continuous data gathering and algorithmic improvement to customize settings for individual users. These platforms deliver evidence-based chronic and behavioral therapies via software that replace or complement the existing treatment of a disease. AI Platforms help patients avoid hospital settings by managing their care at home and in ambulatory settings.
