ABSTRACT

HCO leadership that considers IT as an integral part of its mission uses governance models to support innovative care models for increased provider satisfaction and patient engagement. Innovative governance models include a centralized IT department supported by decentralized technology leadership, empowered functional user committees, project prioritization, design, and support of IT systems. Central management of IT systems includes designing and implementing hardware systems including networks, application systems, data analytics, security and privacy of PHI, and user support. IT capital and operating funding should be approved by senior management in conjunction with user committees and IT leadership. Funding should consider project scope and outcomes. In addition, the increasing transition to value-based care emphasizes patient engagement, proactive disease management, and improved chronic care management. This change from reactive to proactive care requires an increasing reliance on advanced digital technologies and innovative care models.
