ABSTRACT

Students spend approximately 1300 hours during the academic year with their teachers – a significant amount of time compared to what they spend with their parents. This discrepancy demonstrates a void many teachers fill for their students. This chapter cites research that vividly conveys how profoundly the teacher-student relationship impacts students’ physical and emotional well-being. In addition, student capacity to initiate and maintain peer relationships is closely connected to how teachers relate to students.
