ABSTRACT

Porn films are likewise episodic in character, go against the publicly accepted moral grain, and typically feature wooden performances. Porn even shares important features in common with art more generally: it belongs to a particular medium, it belongs to a particular genre within that medium, it aims to arouse strong emotions, etc. Among in-compatibilists, on the other hand, many have argued that pornography serves a primary intended purpose (sexual arousal and gratification) which is different from that served by art. In this respect, pornography differs from erotic art, which can titillate but whose primary purpose is artistic, and from erotica, whose primary purpose is titillation without art or gratification.
