ABSTRACT

Depending on whom you ask, there are three or four species of zebras: Grévy’s zebra, the plains zebra, the mountain zebra, and Hartmann’s zebra (sometimes classified as a subspecies of the mountain zebra). Each species has a distinct conservation status, and the plains zebra is not considered endangered or vulnerable. But imagine it was. Imagine, in fact, that all zebras are endangered because they are extensively hunted for their striped coats.
