ABSTRACT

The Police Act 1997 gives legal form to two national police organisations – the National Criminal Intelligence Service and the National Crime Squad. The General Secretariat in Paris co-ordinates the activities of police authorities of Member States in international matters and centralises records relating to the movement of international criminals. The Director General, after consultation with the Service Authority, will designate a deputy to act during his absence or if there is a vacancy in his office. The Directors General must each prepare a draft service plan to be submitted to their respective Authority. Police information technology organisation (PITO) is a statutory body founded by section 109 and Schedule 8 Police Act 1997. The purpose of PITO is to: carry out activities, including the commissioning of research, relating to information technology equipment and systems for the use of the police.
