ABSTRACT

With these examples of strategic stories, themes regarding the difficulty and possibility of managing strong emotions are highlighted. The samples show that not only are there many different types of feelings to be sorted out (anger, anxiety, grief, sadness, etc.) but that individuals have to figure out what to do with them once they identify them. How does one express anger or anxiety without making the situation worse? How can one come up with words when they are needed instead of either shutting down or acting out? These are the kinds of complex issues the leaders help our sixth-graders work through with the help of the following kinds of strategic stories on this topic.
