ABSTRACT

The goals for this first session are to help the participants understand what the group is about, to help them meet each other and the leaders, and to have the students share just a bit about themselves and their own lives. In the “Opening,” the students are led through a warm-up exercise, a description of what the group is about, and a request for the students to fill out a “pre-assessment.” In the “Body,” the students introduce themselves and ask questions of each other using the “60-Second Autobiography.” In the “Closing,” the students reflect on their experience in the group both verbally (by stating what they liked or learned) and in writing (by filling out the weekly survey).
