ABSTRACT

Capturing rainwater regenerates every other harvest covered in this book. It is a linchpin. I can be as good for us as everything downstream. This chapter examines the two types of rainwater capture: Passive and active. Passive capture, called rain gardens, is discussed by highlighting nomenclature, best and worst types of landscapes, and strategies for slowing, stopping and cleaning stormwater runoff. Active harvest, which involves storing the rainwater for future use, is discussed by highlighting nomenclature, best and worst types of landscapes, ways to identify the right type of containment vessel, catchment surfaces to avoid, and practical maintenance tips.
