ABSTRACT

Utilizing as much of the natural energy every site receives is imperative for a sustainable society. This chapter covers all the passive, non-industrial energies, as well as all the active, more-industrial energies. More specifically, this chapter examines the most common types of renewable energy captured, grown and employed in urban areas, which include biofuels, earth, human, solar, and wind.

Included in this chapter are nomenclature and a detailed overview of each of the five energies, which includes uses for the energy, costs, levels of difficulty, best scale for energy, how-to seize the energy, and important notes. Also included in this chapter is a brief overview of storing electricity without the use of chemicals and/or rare Earth minerals, and a discussion on ERoEIs.
