Growing food in cities is ancient. It makes sense, having health and wellbeing right outside a door can reduce environmental costs, improve health outcomes, and be a rewarding profession. This chapter is divided into five sections. It looks at making the most of intensive production in urban areas, the power of passive food production, the bounty of spontaneous foods, how to grow the healthiest urban food, and lastly it asks an important question. Is food really the best crop for urban areas? This chapter includes nomenclature, extensive plant lists, and maintenance tips.
