ABSTRACT

What is more important than public health and wellbeing? Nothing, that's what. This chapter has been written for landscape designers, urban planners and gardeners that care for their neighbors and communities. Effective landscaping can reduce respiratory problems, allergic reactions, heart rate, and blood pressure. This chapter is divided into six sections, which includes nomenclature, landscape practices for allergen reduction, strategies to reduce air pollutants, techniques for reducing the use of pesticides, strategies for reducing nightlights, and the ten principles of restorative landscaping that boost the feeling of wellbeing.
