ABSTRACT

The culture makes an important repertoire of politics and acts as a conduit to the formation of leadership styles and everyday construction of political discourse that have practical implications for political strategies and behaviors of both leaders and constituents. This chapter uses the interviews of political representatives and intermediaries to pan out the core cultural repertoires shared by leaders and constituents and influence all four gradients of engagements. After providing the profile of the political leaders, it discusses the symbolic role of Izzat and Talluq in shaping the way politics is imagined and practiced at the very local levels of home, family, community and Dera.
