ABSTRACT

Being a strait-laced person is expected when you are the teacher in the classroom. However, the Nutty Professors and Patch Adams are the educators whom everyone loves. They are admired because they are completely passionate and unapologetically energized about what they teach. This passion is contagious, and students will inevitably translate your idiosyncrasies into entertainment. Over the years, many female students have told me that I have given them the confidence to be who they are and not to try to fit in all of the time. Secondary students are at an impressionable place in their development and leading by example as a teacher can make a big difference. Making it normal to be quirky and “not normal” is a lesson that cannot be planned, but it is one that can prepare them for their future better than any other lesson you might write.
