ABSTRACT

Many things about the educational system have not adapted to the ever-changing world. Many of our practices are outdated, but they are still implemented because it is “what we do” but not what is best for the students. Often discipline falls into this category. Often the discipline matrix is not reflective of the best practices that we are taught to implement in our own classrooms. If you have the ability to make changes or suggestions to your administration, see what you have the power to do. One teacher's perception can go a long way; often there are others who agree, but they see it as another role to take on, another commitment of their time. We often ask our students to look beyond the surface and ask “why?” when learning new things. We can do the same.
