ABSTRACT
Teachers need to choose their battles just as parents need to. There are trends and behaviors worth railing against, but others that we need to adapt to just as we must adapt to the ever-changing society around us. Many educators do not want to embrace changing trends and they end up swimming upstream and making their job more challenging than it needs to be. Once in a while educators need to remember that the only constant is change, and the sooner we adapt to the society around us the easier it will be. Choosing to keep society and cultural influences outside of your classroom is no different than trying to keep a student's homelife from impacting their day in school.
