ABSTRACT

Gender-based violence and feminicide have been weapons used against female bodies within the context of the armed conflict and in its aftermath in Colombia. This violence affects women and girls in settings both public and private, and women who are community leaders, in particular, are often threatened, harassed, and killed. This chapter examines the efforts of women to visibilize these crimes and the continuing impunity for those who commit them, despite the enactment of laws that seek to prevent and condemn such actions. The author considers two examples, the testimonial poetry of Marta Lucía Quiñónez and the activism of La Red Feminista Antimilitarista (The Feminist Antimilitarist Network). Quiñónez is a poet based in Medellín whose work examines themes of pain, trauma, and resilience. The Red Feminista Antimilitarista is an organization that focuses on popular education, communication, and political performance in the public space in order to comprehend violence against women and female bodies in Medellín.
