ABSTRACT

This chapter centers on Un tal Alonso Quijano (A Certain Alonso Quijano 2020), produced by students from Universidad Nacional in Bogotá. The film combines literature with punk music to reveal the ongoing trauma of generations as the inheritance of young people today. It also examines the university as a space of structural and state violence where youth are suspects and targets, a criticism it carries out in the context of the Paro Nacional, a multitudinous national strike in which many students participated between the years 2019 and 2021. It analyzes the role of memory in the film and music score, focusing on how the use of literary and musical language allows the characters to gain an understanding of their situation and represent the decay of society. It also considers the film in the context of historical events that remain in the collective memory and have shaped the lives of Bogotanos since the 1940s, and the recent state repression that has affected young Colombians in particular.
