ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the cultural production and activism of two artists who are known throughout Colombia and internationally for their commitment to nonviolence. The first part reflects on the work of Guayra Puka Arias Florián, an artist and community activist whose murals can be found throughout Bogotá and who collaborates with groups of women and youth to create open spaces of communication, negotiation, and political action through collaborative processes of creation. The second part examines the music and activism of Diana Avella, who confronts political violence and gender inequality through her rap lyrics, her feminism, and the community projects she leads.
