ABSTRACT

In concluding the book, the period in the history of the country known as La Patria Boba (The Foolish Fatherland), is compared with contemporary Colombia. It is argued that the legacy of the Foolish Fatherland persists, as the nation continues to choose war, due to political disagreements and manipulations that divide the population. The efforts of artists, collectives, and human rights organizations are imperative, the author argues, in order to dream of an empowered motherland that works toward peace. The need for Colombian society to recognize the people and institutions that keep memory alive is emphasized.
