ABSTRACT

This chapter explains theories, methods, and practices that are useful in the ethics of drone design. It includes fundamental issues such as the non-neutrality of technology, how human values are embodied into technologies, and what human values are. The chapter goes into detail about the value-sensitive design methodology, including methods that are often used in the ethical, social, and technological phases of VSD. Methodological considerations including worldview, research approach, and research design are addressed. Finally, several useful tools in the ethics of drone design – including ethical frameworks, ethics standards, capability caution, the concept of multiple futures, speculative design, and art – are covered.
