ABSTRACT

This chapter – in line with the approach taken in the other chapters – provides context to the topic of study; it does so by presenting information about the engineer who authored this book. It includes the engineer’s early life and career, along with their education and professional experience. Then, a study that identified some of their values and virtues is introduced. These include the values of autonomy and justice, and the virtues of curiosity, creativity, and cooperation. The scope of analysis then expands to include the context in which the engineer works, their collaborators, and their networks. It concludes with reflections on future work, and a call-to-action for engineers to lead a paradigm shift toward ethically informed drone design.
