ABSTRACT

Welcome to Unit 2 in my music-production course. In this unit, we will cover panning. Panning is one of the Big Four when mixing a track. In the last unit, we focused on the most overlooked element – balancing a mix. Panning is the next most overlooked skill to learn. Once you have a balanced mix as your starting point, panning is your first opportunity to create space between elements. Rather than just having all your channels equally positioned between your left and right monitors or headphones, you can place things further to the left or right, giving them their unique position in the stereo field.
