ABSTRACT

The clinical notes of this chapter come from the months of January to April 1937. Material shows Klein continuing to analyse Mr B's phantasies concerning destructive sexuality. More affectionate feelings towards Klein however are also coming to the fore, and this seems to go hand in hand with a lifting of repression. Specifically, Mr B becomes much more aware of the hatred and contempt he felt towards his father, which had always gone in his mother's direction. Mourning is also well and truly underway. As the title suggests, the work of this period brings Mr B much relief from suffering, and his depression begins to lift.
