ABSTRACT

The clinical notes of this chapter come from the months January to March 1938. Klein records that there is a powerful resurgence of depressive feelings, as Mr B suffers a negative therapeutic reaction the likes of which Klein admits she has rarely seen. This she connects to an internalised, phenomenally destructive parental sexuality, and much analysis of this follows. Very early feelings of deep exhaustion and inertia are also revived in the analysis, and are linked by Klein to the early feeding situation. The difficulty of establishing a peaceful mother inside is analysed. Mr B is called up to serve in the war during this period, so treatment is somewhat disrupted.
