ABSTRACT

Material in this chapter comes from the years 1940, 1943, 1948, and 1949. There is much analysis of anality in this chapter, which is connected by Klein to the sexual activity that may have occurred between Mr B and his siblings. Mr B's guilt at having destroyed his sister through some violation emerges and he is overcome by this. Anxiety regarding the war also features, as Mr B's painful sense of being unable to protect his family from all that is going on in the world comes to the fore. This frightening reality notwithstanding, one can see that Mr B is much more in touch with his difficulties, his guilt, and paranoid, accusing tendencies. A very moving dream from 1948 reveals how much the analysis has helped Mr B to connect with a more constructive parental sexuality.
