ABSTRACT

Aisha recounts a visit to the portraitist, Lorenzo Lotto, in his Venetian studio. Al-Harith, Salim, Aisha and an interpreter have an appointment with Lotto in order to negotiate new Turkish carpets needed for a portrait commission. The painter is disappointed by the visual characteristics of the Ushak carpets al-Harith has brought to the studio. Lotto explains what he is looking for and Salim brings a cheaper carpet carrying strong geometric patterns. This example meet with Lotto's approval and a sale is concluded.
