ABSTRACT

Al-Harith invoices Antonis Benakis for a partial tile panel that originally came from a ruined sixteenth-century palace in Edirne. The palace had been destroyed during the Russo-Turkish war. Al-Harith recounts his efforts to locate the remainder of the tiles from the larger panel. He is foiled by Abu Zayd, who had earlier removed the remaining tiles from the site and sold them to other European collectors.
