ABSTRACT

Building skills, fostering agency, building healthy relationships, strengthening the environment and transforming systems are needed to make the youth more positive. A toolkit that can help develop children’s positivity can be found in the Positive Youth Development framework. The framework is valuable in preparing children for the realities of climate change, answering global issues and challenges, empowering them as change agents and engaging them in post-crisis decision-making. Concerning tourism, opportunities to engage in tourism planning and development may benefit children’s well-being, as this gives the sense that they contribute equally to the present and future community development and are valued members of society. Hence, we will discuss sustainable tourism development linked to the model, aiming at foreseeing child-friendly tourist communities.
