ABSTRACT

This chapter consists of a number of reflections on elements of the two preceding chapters in Part V. Initial focus is on Key Concepts, which may be paraphrased simply as “For children, with children”. If we engage children in tourism in a positive way, then we create an effective, integrative development framework. This engages them as tourism participants with parents and peers as well as tourism employees, trainees or students. Children and young people will undeniably become the most important actors in the push for greater and more sustainable tourism.

The Critical Factors that are relevant to the topics under consideration are then highlighted. The most important is the need to advance critical and experiential research into the position of children in tourism communities. Unfortunately, the existing literature suffers from arrested development through an overfocus on economic factors. We require the empowering of children’s voices through the next level of research.

Finally, the authors examine the subject of Connections by evaluating the most likely topics for consideration by students, researchers and practitioners.
