ABSTRACT

Considering literature as a medium to introduce a country through its sociocultural and political narrative, this introductory chapter discusses the background stories in US–Iran relations by means of the selected works of Simin Daneshvar, Shahriar Mandanipour, and Don DeLillo. They are not just literary authors; they also act as sociopolitical and cultural activists who endeavor to present how literature, in particular their national literary output, interacts, communicates, and connects with other literary works and cultures by employing different mobilities in connection with narrational shifts. Referring to the sociocultural interactions between Iranians and Americans before the official encounter between their states, this chapter sheds light on the reasons behind the composition of this book on the basis of the role of literature in bridging the gap between US–Iranian relations toward the possibility of building amity between them.
