ABSTRACT

Introducing mobility in relation to narrative, or narrative mobility, this chapter deals with the forms of narrative and physical mobility. Presenting the interactions between characters in the selected works of Simin Daneshvar, Shahriar Mandanipour, and Don DeLillo, this chapter aims at demonstrating how the physical mobility of characters occurs along with shifts in the forms of narration from third-person to first-person, and from memoir to memory narrative. Furthermore, the strand of narratives remains at the core interest of Daneshvar, Mandanipour, and DeLillo as they demonstrate the alterations in their characters’ traditions, values, and beliefs. Drawing narrative mobility in a comparative reading of the three authors reveals how Iranian and American cultures negotiate, relate, and most importantly, present affinities with one another against the grain of the mainstream media discourse.
