ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the concept of nonverbal communication from a journalism and media studies perspective. By providing in-depth explanations from nonverbal theory through a media framework, this chapter will allow media scholars to better understand the current conceptualizations and measurements of the nonverbal field. It will also explain professional norms of objectivity and neutrality, as well as their impact on many types of journalism practiced around the world. Then it will explain how the two concepts work together for nonverbal neutrality, an area rarely explored in current scholarship.
