ABSTRACT

Tenison’s from school vicar to school fascist.

Edna Grundy welcomes the news that Lovene and Bob Row are engaged. Trevor is delighted because he hero-worships Row. Trevor’s attempts to recruit members of his generation at Tenison’s fails, and parents express anger that while they fought against Hitler during the war, their children were being indoctrinated by a young Mosleyite. Once known as the school vicar, he is now known as the school fascist. He tries to persuade Jeffrey Hamm to give him a job at 302 Vauxhall Bridge Road, but both Hamm and Row tell him to stay where he is, get his three A levels and go to University because in years to come Mosley will need graduates. Trevor is shattered when he hears that Lovene has broken off her engagement to Row and is to marry John Wood. He ends up being best man at their wedding. At the reception in Lovene’s basement flat at 40 Blandford Square, her father says he likes Mario Lanza songs but prefers Gigli because he sang for Mussolini.
