ABSTRACT

A transactional analysis diagnosis begins with functional analysis and structural analysis of the client's ego states. In formulating a Transactional Analysis (TA) diagnosis of their client, the therapist makes observations and starts to make inferences about the content and process of the client's ego state structure. The content, affect and disturbances of each ego state category need to be accounted for. Second-order and third-order structural models allow refinement in developing a detailed structural analysis of each client. Structural analysis can include consideration of the client's different Child ego states according to age. The client will experience and present qualitatively different Child ego states according to the age and developmental stage of the ego state cathected.
