ABSTRACT

Shivanath and Hiremath extend the concept of cultural scripting and develop a script matrix that accounts for cultural scripting factors. In their model they develop three layers of scripting: the scripting that occurs within the family; the individual's religious and cultural script; and the wider (predominantly white and heterosexual) cultural scripting. A culture of forgiveness and a promising future in heaven. On the other hand the Religious Parent can cause problems relating to conditional belonging, adherence to strict rules and prejudices against people outside the group. Non-heterosexual people have to deal with the impact of carrying a cultural Parent which is not affirming of their very being, and will need to deal with the oppressive introjects as part of their own movement towards greater self-acceptance.
