ABSTRACT

The script system is a useful table which captures the central aspects of a client's life script, how it manifests, and links these to the client's symptoms and life history. As such, the script system maps out the client's internal landscape and provides the therapist with a clear set of targets for therapeutic work and treatment planning. Information regarding observable displays can enhance the client's awareness regarding how their emotions operate, particularly on a behavioural, observable level, and can also lead the client into exploration regarding how others experience them and how the client's emotional behaviour impacts upon others. Reinforcing memories or memories of occasions that provided ‘evidence’ of the client's script beliefs are often remarkably easy for the client to access.
