ABSTRACT

Two crucial competencies for leaders in the twenty-first century are self-development and relationship management, according to a growing number of authoritative voices. Neuroscientific evidence validates the useful potential of the Enneagram in opening awareness. Self-development is the lifelong process of growing conscious, reflective awareness, especially of our emotions, to enlarge our capacity to hold multiple perspectives and look beyond our own beliefs and practices with open-hearted curiosity. Relationship management is the ability to connect with others to assure them of their worthiness – an under-rated competency, it seems. The Enneagram can help develop both competencies in leaders and in teams and can add more depth to working with the Integral quadrants’ four aspects of human experience.
